A lone cyclist in Yorkshire

You might have recently read our blog, ‘The Way of the Roses – Announcing HA&W’s charity fundraiser 2024’ in which we wrote about Alasdair’s 170-mile challenge.

Alasdair will be cycling from Morecambe in Lancashire to Bridlington in the East Riding of Yorkshire in aid of the Loughborough Area Food Bank. The route is known as the “Way of the Roses” and the challenge begins on 28th June.

Here’s the latest word from Alasdair as he prepares for his epic challenge.

“Just three weeks to go until I set out on the hardest bike ride I have ever undertaken.

“Thank you so much to those of you who have already sponsored me, it means a great deal and will make a huge difference to an incredible local charity.

“Please consider donating to Loughborough Area Food Bank via my JustGiving page if you haven’t yet had the chance.

“To give you an idea of the scale of our challenge, the first day’s ride will be 130km (that’s more than 80 miles) with 2,300m (around 7,540 feet) of climbing. That’s equivalent to cycling up Snowdon… twice!

“And, of course, then I’ll have two more days of cycling to follow. What have I let myself in for?!

“That said, it’s impossible to compare my challenge to those that Loughborough Food Bank helps their clients through – not just with much-needed food supplies for those in dire straits, but with debt counselling, and work-readiness coaching.

“You can find out more about the amazing work that Loughborough Area Food Bank do on their website. And in the meantime, please consider donating if you can. Every pound is a huge help.

“And finally, wish me luck!”

Stay tuned for news of how Alasdair gets on in the coming weeks.
