In last week’s post, I told you that Alasdair and I will be attempting the Great North Run later this year. As a half-marathon, we face 13.1 miles when we take to the starting line in September!
I also told you about some of our charitable activities and why we do whatever we can to support the efforts of our staff and the wider community in all that they do for good causes.
Over the bank holiday weekend earlier this month, we started as we mean to go on, testing the waters with the five-mile Wymeswold Waddle on Sunday 6th. While the company as a whole is proud to have sponsored the event, it also brings us joy to share the finishing times of the three of us who took part in the race.
The race is held in support of Wymeswold Community First Responders, a team of 11 volunteers who work hard, year-round to save lives and attend emergency situations within the district. They do this in their spare time and ask for nothing in return.
In all, there were 332 entrants, including many serious runners. The first to cross the finish line did so with an astonishing time of 25:45 and was soon(ish) followed by:
- Rob Handford in 118th place with a time of 40:30
- Alasdair Walker in 251st position with a time of 49:11
- Myself at 54:37 in a respectable 297th place
Of course, I have to give an honorary mention to Alison, who made the biggest sacrifice a seasoned runner can, and volunteered her time as a marshal for the event.
We’re all extremely proud that we finished the race with respectable times, and now we’re even more excited to get ready for the Great North Run!
If you are involved in worthy causes in the local, or wider community, why not let us know? We’re always keen to hear of the good things our clients and friends do in their spare time, and we might even be able to lend a hand!
